Iconography
Iconography is the sacred visual language of Orthodox Christianity, communicating its beliefs, narratives and theology through image and symbol. More than religious art, icons bear witness to the spiritual mysteries of the Orthodox faith. Our icons are created not simply to be observed, but to serve the life of the Church through prayer, contemplation and veneration, drawing the viewer beyond the visible image towards the sacred person depicted.
We create our icons using traditional Byzantine painting techniques, including egg tempera and hand-applied gold leaf. Drawing on both the Greek and Russian iconographic traditions, our work explores these ancient visual languages through a distinctly Western sensibility, informed by the simplicity and earthy palette of early Christian and medieval painting.
