“I do not worship matter; I worship the Creator of matter who became matter for my sake, who willed to take his abode in matter; who worked out my salvation through matter. Never will I cease honoring the matter which wrought my salvation! I honour it, but not as God.””
At Locusts & Honey, we specialise in Byzantine iconography, icons that capture the essence of our revered saints. Our iconography serves not as decorative pieces, but as spiritual conduits that invite reflection and reverence. Through the depiction of these figures, we aim to inspire a greater appreciation for the traditions that have shaped British Orthodox identity.
By venerating our saints, we foster a sense of continuity and belonging. Each saint tells a story, embodies virtues, and provides guidance through their example. Their veneration is not merely a nostalgic gesture; it is an affirmation of faith and communal identity, a reminder of the values that unite us and the faith that uplifts us.
In exploring the significance of this tradition, we encourage you to delve into understanding who these saints were, the lives they led, and the legacies they left behind. Through our offerings, we hope to cultivate a deeper connection to these spiritual ancestors, enriching both personal and communal journeys.
Our iconography is characterised by an austere abstracted approach; the earthy colours and forms recall Romanesque and early Roman wall paintings. We create icons to draw the viewer into a space of prayer and contemplation. This artistic practice resonates with the ascetic and hermetic practices of early monastics, inviting you to see with the eye of the heart.
SAINTS, HISTORY & MIRACLES
As I make the icons, I am writing about the development of the process and also further information regarding the saint and how He/She is still relevant today.
